LGBTQ

As a LGBTQ affirming therapist, I have deeply personal and clinical experiences serving the LGBTQ population. I am sensitive to and aware of the critical coming out process, and what this experience may be like for your family and friends, and can provide support to you as you navigate this often intimidating, scary process. I have worked with LGBTQ clients who were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in the early 80’s, adults who are questioning and on the cusp of coming out to themselves, parents who have just learned that their child is gay, young adults who are coming to terms with what it means to be trans, and LGBTQ adults who are reconciling their faith with their orientation. If you are still in the early stages of questioning or coming out to yourself, therapy can also be a safe space and helpful support as you explore a potentially new identity and orientation for yourself.

I am a firm believer in challenging and exploring the parts of ourselves that may be rooted in shame, internalized homophobia, compulsory heterosexuality, and the reality of being in a world that reinforces the social construct of a heteronormative, gender binary ideology. By challenging and exploring these parts of ourselves we are able to make peace with what may have been a lifelong struggle. We often spend years of our life denying what we know to be true, suppressing our natural state, or worrying about what others may think, rather than stepping out in the freedom, acceptance, and abundance of who we are.
